No sooner do I declare the death of Second Amendment, not only does the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit weigh in to refute me, but a gang of gun bloggers running that hideous Simple Machines Forum software are organizing Second Amendment rallies next year in each of the fifty state capitols, plus DC.
Well, don’t ever say I can’t take a hint.
I’ve never been one for rallies and marches, since I don’t think any of them (in this country) have ever done any good since the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963. Also, though the Save The 2nd people have only just set up, there’s already too much flag-waving going on for my blood (see logo above). Are they really going to do anything to change the perceptions most Americans have of the gun rights community, perceptions which above all else threaten our right to keep and bear arms?
But it could be a lot of fun, too, and in any case might, if successful, indicate to the Clueless Media the extent and passion of the gun rights movement in America.
If it’s not successful, it could prove to be very embarrassing indeed. Remember the second Million Mom March? Neither does anyone else.
For now, I’m penciling in Monday, 28 April 2008, on my calendar for a visit to Sacramento. Check out the Save The 2nd website. Let’s see if this thing grows legs.
