More than half of Democratic Underground own guns

These polls are never scientific, since the participants are self-selecting and once they show up on blogs all kinds of fruitcakes from both sides of the divide stampede over to skew the results.

But I was looking at Democratic Underground today and just happened to be there when this poll appeared. After one hour and about 145 votes, gun owners outnumbered the rest by 57% to 43%.

This poll comes on the heels of a similar one last week at Daily Kos, where half of respondents characterized themselves as “pro gun,” compared to 40% who said they weren’t and 8% who couldn’t make up their minds.

Pro gun rights folks seem to make up the majority of online progressives; they just need to be noisier about it.

Update

Looking at the Democratic Underground logo, I just noticed it uses the same font as our Guntards.net logo, including the technique of using a spot color for the TLD. This is bizarre, as I had never visited DU before setting up Guntards.net. In fact, I first settled on the typographic style back in 2001 when I set up a personal gun page called Magnums’ Gun Page. Note that site hasn’t been updated since January, 2002, long before I had ever heard of DU. Check it out, almost the same spot color and everything:

You don’t suppose DU copied their logo type style from my old gun page, do you? Whoa.
