NYT: Liberal Case for Gun Rights Sways Judiciary

Yesterday the New York Times published an article by Adam Liptak reacting to March’s upholding of the Second Amendment by the DC Appeals Court, and attributing it to recent shifts in judicial thinking by “liberal” jurists such as Laurence H Tribe (at left), Akhil Reed Amar and Sanford Levinson.

We guntards have always claimed protection of gun rights as a liberal cause, along with all the other civil rights. There’s nothing liberal about the Brady Center’s or the VPC’s desire to see the people completely disarmed before an increasingly omnipotent government. Only a government that does not trust the people it governs insists they be forcibly disarmed. Only on Planet Brady can their position ever be considered a “liberal” or “progressive” one.

It is gratifying that the New York Times, between bouts of war-cheering, is getting around to understanding the importance of gun rights in the pantheon of liberal causes.
