Third Way: Taking Back The Second Amendment

This white paper by Jim Kessler, Third Way’s Vice President for Policy, on how progressives can neutralize gun control as a divisive political issue, was recently brought to our attention. It is interesting reading insofar as how it is refreshing to see progressives finally addressing the problem of partisan polarization on this issue which is reinforced by both parties.

On the other hand, the white paper perpetuates the gun grabbing myths of the assault weapon ban and the “gun show loophole,” thus making it more of a cynical campaigning guide than an actual educational piece. The assault weapon ban was nothing more than an indefensible incremental gun ban, and the “gun show loophole” is little more than a Brady Center talking point. Still, it’s another step forward for the progressive movement against gun control.

Since the Third Way site appears to be based on shopping cart software, we’re not sure how long the link above will be valid, so we are also hosting a copy of the white paper here at Guntards.net, just in case the above link changes. If this bothers anyone from Third Way, just let us know and we’ll take it down.
